Two weeks ago we introduced you to two of the best summer STEM camps that Georgia has to offer: the Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics and Computing (CEISMC) PEAKS Program at Georgia Tech and iD Tech Academy at Emory University. This week, we introduce you to three amazing STEM camps offered across the country. These camps not only inspire students with a passion for STEM but also empower them to study STEM at the nation’s top colleges. Our kids are the next generation of inventors, problem solvers, and game changers. Before they can realize this potential, they must embrace STEM and hone skills they’ll need to think in new ways and imagine new futures. It is our responsibility to ignite their curiosity and passion for the world they live in. That’s where MathSP and the camps detailed below come in.
The Summer Institute for the Gifted (SIG)
The Summer Institute for the Gifted (SIG) provides the highest quality of educational and social opportunities for academically precocious and talented students. Unlike many STEM-based, academically rigorous summer camps, SIG offers a well-rounded program that combines academics, social, cultural and recreational opportunities. With 29 years of experience challenging gifted students, SIG is an expert at creating safe environments for young people ages 5-17 to take academic risks and ask big questions. SIG Residential programs are held at Princeton University, Columbia University, Yale University, Amherst College, Bryn Mawr College, Emory University, University of California Berkeley, University of Chicago, UCLA and Vassar College. Most schools offer a commuter and residential option, though the residential option certainly provides a greater sense of what college life is all about. Not to mention more opportunities for establishing life-long relationships. Each campus offers its own array of educational opportunities so research by location to learn more about the academic offerings.
Microsoft’s DigiGIRLZ High Tech Camps
Think that it’s too late to apply to any of the free STEM camps offered this summer? Think again. Registration is still open for DigiGIRLz High Tech Camps, a Microsoft program offered specifically to eliminate the gender gap in STEM fields by dispelling stereotypes that discourage young women from avidly pursuing STEM careers. During the camp sessions, students listen to executive speakers, participate in technology tours and demonstrations, build relationships and lifelong friendships, and engage in hands-on technology workshops. These camps are offered at absolutely no cost. These non-residential camps are scattered around the country, and are open to out-of-state students as long as they secure housing arrangements for themselves.
Digital Media Academy (DMA)
Consistently ranked as one of the ten best summer camps in the world, Digital Media Academy offers STEM-oriented educational programs at prestigious universities across the country, including the University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University, Yale University, University of Chicago, Harvard University, University of Washington, Seattle, New York University, Bryn Mawr, and several others.
